Lipovans lecture Realised: April 2009
Title: Old Believers in Romania
Media: photo slideshow, lecture & discussion
Host: ARKADIA Oy International Bookshop
Comments: In summer 2008 I've spent 4 days in a monastery in the Dobruja region in Romania. I took part in an annual celebration of believers of the Old Rite and documented the rituals. This year I presented the materials during a presentation in a bookshop in Helsinki. Here's the talk announced on the bookshop blog: www.arkadiabookshop.fi/blog/?p=144

Title: Alternative Economy Cultures seminar: WarszawaGratis.info
Media: slideshow, presentation
Host: PixelACHE Festival of Electronic Art and Subcultures
Comments: I presented the project WarszawaGratis.info on the Alt.econ.cult seminars during Pixelache festival in Helsinki. Documentation of the entire event is here: 2009.pixelache.ac/alternative-economy-cultures-documentations
Arkadia bags Completed: March 2009
Title: Pixelache 2009
Media: offset, silkscreen
Client: PixelACHE Festival of Electronic Art and Subcultures
Comments: Once again I've designed all the materials for the annual electronic art festival in Helsinki. This time the dominating colour was magenta and the leading graphic on the poster was a hair dryer used as a megaphone. I chose 'Reykjavik Two' to be the headline typeface of the event from now on. Here are the festival credits: 2009.pixelache.ac/organisers-and-supporters
We Print Zines!

Realised: March 2009
Title: Drukujemy Zin! (We Print Zines!)
Media: letterpress workshops
Host: Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts
Comments: 'We Print Zines!' is a workshop where each participant designs one page of a collective zine. Subsequently all copies are being reproduced using traditional graphic techniques such as letterpress, linocuts, etc... The process and results of the workshop have been documented online (website in Polish): drukujemyzin.blogspot.com
Detailed description in English: WePrintZines%21-workshops.pdf

"Drukujemy Zin!" to warsztaty, podczas których każdy z uczestnikow projektuje jedną stronę wspólnego zinu – rodzaju amatorskiego czasopisma. Następnie wszystkie egzemplarze reprodukowane są przy użyciu tradycyjnych technik graficznych: prasy drukarskiej, linorytu, etc... Przebieg oraz efekt warsztatów udokumentowane są na stronie: drukujemyzin.blogspot.com

WarszawaGratis.info
opens in new window
Started: December 2008
Title: www.WarszawaGratis.info
Media: concept & production
Client: self-published
Comments: Every day somewhere in the city there are concerts, screenings, theatre plays, lectures, workshops, meetings and other events that don’t require tickets or fees. People meet and do things together without the involvement of money. WarszawaGratis.info is an on-line calendar with detailed information about a large variety of free events within the bounds of Warsaw. It allows and encourages input from volunteers through a simple form available on the website and also features a map with all the places where free events take place regularly.
Arkadia bags Completed: July 2008
Title: Arkadia promo bags
Media: serigraphy on textile bags
Client: ARKADIA Oy International Bookshop
Comments: Assignment that followed the webdesign for the international bookshop. Image of a vintage bicycle with books on the carrier applied by silkscreen on textile bags. Both the client and I don't like nor use cars but prefer two wheels instead so the image of a bike seemed perfect for the job.
Arkadia website

Completed: June 2008
Title: arkadiabookshop.fi
Media: webdesign
Client: ARKADIA Oy International Bookshop
Comments: Website designed for a small, recently opened bookshop in Helsinki's old neighbourhood Töölö. The shelf-like structure is elegant but flexible and allows for unlimited expansion and easy modification in the future.
Birds

Started: 2004 (ongoing)
Title: Birds
Media: digital photography
Client: self-published
Comments: Continuation of a series that I started around 2002. Currently the oldest photograph in the set is from 2004. I occasionally photograph other dead animals but I focus on birds – they are the most common and visible deaths surrounding us. Other deaths, such as humans or pets, are quickly taken care and disposed of but the presence of dead birds (the animals most assimilated with urban life) is accompanying us on a daily basis. By aestheticizing them to some extend by means of composition I intend to 'make the audience look' at something they otherwise wouldn't and perhaps provoke a moment of reflection.
Pixelache University Completed: March 2008
Title: Pixelache University
Media: offset print, silkscreen
Client: PixelACHE Festival of Electronic Art and Subcultures
Comments: Concept and graphic design for the 2008 edition of Pixelache festival. Produced items included a poster, local flyer, international flyer, brochure and bag.
Tuntematon Sotilas Completed: November 2007
Title: Tuntematon Sotilas
Media: offset print
Client: The Finnish National Theatre
Comments: Brochure accompanying the theatre play Unknown Soldier based on the historical book by Vaino Linna. On the cover there is a list of actors' names presented in a way associated with military organisation. Above the list is a symbolic instruction of how to tear open holes in the brochure in order to be able to "hide" from the "war" taking place on the stage. Concept of the brochure developed together with director Kristian Smeds, Ville Hyvönen and Aina Bergroth.

Title: TypoTrip - Typography on the Road ( typotrip.wordpress.com )
Media: digital photography, blog
Client: self-published
Comments: Self-made lettering, improvised signs, coincidental designs and random messages; sweet shapes and big words lost in the void of time; also eroded forms, outdated design trends and letters that have seen a better day. Or simply a collection of strange, worn-down, outdated, intriguing, self-made, out-of-place and interesting letters, words and messages from all over the world. A blog dedicated to typography on the road.
Hana Records Completed: July 2007 - Helsinki, Finland
Title: Hana Records
Media: print, screen
Client: Lighthouse Music Ltd.
Comments: Logo design for a young record label located in Helsinki. I was also involved in the concepting and design of the cover for the first record released under this label which was designed by illustrator and graphic designer Natalia Kulka.
Lost & Found

Completed: May 2007 - Helsinki, Finland
Title: Lost & Found ( flickr.com/photos/wojtekmejor )
Media: digital photography
Client: self-published
Comments: This is a series of photographs that I was working on throughout the winter of 06/07 in Helsinki. I noticed people loose hundreds of gloves on the streets here, and the interesting thing is that often other people, upon finding, pick them up from the floor and place them somewhere visible. In many cases this makes the gloves look very dramatic or comic.
Nordic VJ Meeting Completed: April 2007 - Helsinki, Finland
Title: Nordic VJ Meeting
Media: print, silkscreen
Client: PixelACHE Festival of Electronic Art and Subcultures
Comments: Graphic design for the 2007 edition of the festival which included the following items: flyer, poster, 70 page publication, print ad, t-shirt and promo bag. The web design I also did is most probably not going to be implemented.

Started: January 2007 - Helsinki, Finland (ongoing)
Title: Locating Helsinki ( locatinghelsinki.wordpress.com )
Media: webdesign, digital photogrpahy
Client: self-published
Comments: A blog established for the aim of documenting different places and aspects of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and promoting alternatives to commercially oriented ways of presenting the character of a city. This project is accompanying my final thesis for my BA degree at the EVTEK Institute of Art and Design.
Included on the page is the project 12 steps to Helsinki - a series of photographs taken 12 steps from the signs marking the administrative boundaries of the city of Helsinki creating an interesting image of the city´s periphery.

In August 2007 I've held a presentation of the project within the Helsinki Summer School - a three-week academic event organised every August by the nine universities in the Helsinki area. The collaboration resulted in 18 new posts in the Place Blog created by students of the Planning a Growing Urban Region course.
